The Faculty of Arts declares open for application one position in the field of

CULTURAL HERITAGE STUDIES

The assistant professor to be appointed will be specialising in research on cultural heritage in a multidisciplinary humanistic environment. His/her activities should create a firm basis for a critical, international and multidisciplinary research approach in the field of cultural heritage studies. The appointee will be expected to show vision,initiative and creativity in developing the field. He/she should also provide interdisciplinary teaching in the field and procure external funding for international research projects, which will advance the status of the discipline.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Helsinki is the oldest and largest institution for teaching and research in the humanities in Finland http://www.helsinki.fi/hum/english/. The position of the assistant professor in cultural heritage studies will be located at the Department of Philosophy, History, Culture and Art Studies http://www.helsinki.fi/phca/. Departmental subjects include folkloristics, ethnology, museology, archaeology, history, philosophy, gender studies, film and television studies, musicology, comparative literature, art history and theatre research. All subjects at the department encompass research on cultural heritage.

The department has altogether over 150 teaching and research personnel, including several nationally and internationally top-ranking scholars. This allows for versatile and critical mentoring for the appointee and gives him/her a chance to gain merits and competence in teaching through university pedagogic studies. The department will assist the appointee in networking and publishing internationally. The department has already established collaborative relationships with numerous institutions specialising in the field of cultural heritage studies.

The University of Helsinki offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience ranging from a minimum of 4,000 euro up to a maximum of 4,600 euro gross per month for a full-time position.
