Dear colleagues,
We kindly invite you to participate in a conference on «The concept of time and space in European folklore.» The conference will take place in Ljubljana at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 6-8, 2007.
Despite conspicuous linguistic and cultural differences throughout the European subcontinent, it is usually assumed that Europeans share a common worldview. However, what such a common Weltanschauungmight be is all too often left undefined. In order to explore in what forms—and to what extent—Europeans do share basic assumptions (even while manifesting myriad regional variations), the study of Space and Time seems appropriate insofar as these categories are at the very roots of cultural constructions of reality. The conference aims to get together scholars with different professional backgrounds to discuss matters in European folklore —including customs and rituals, legends and fairy tales, folk poetry and songs, and so-called superstitions— pertinent to the categories of Time and Space, in order to understand better how these basic categories have molded worldview as well as cultural praxis across Europe.
We hope that this conference will bring together scholars from different countries and fields of research. You are kindly invited to participate in the conference and join the discussion. The language of the conference will be English. You are free to forward this invitation to whoever might be interested in the subject.
Please specify the topic of your paper, your institution, position and academic title, and send the mail to the following address:
