CFP SIEF panel "Shaping Virtual Lives: Identities on the Internet", Lisbon, April 17-21, 2011
Dear all,
As you already may have heard, the SIEF will organize its 10th international congress in Lisbon, Portugal, from 17-21 April 2011. The theme of this conference will be 'People Make Places - Ways of Feeling the World'. One of the sub-themes is 'Shaping Lives' and within this sub-theme we are organizing a panel called 'Shaping Virtual Lives: Identities on the Internet'. The call for papers is now open, and will close on 15 October 2010.
Our panel on 'Shaping Virtual Lives' will deal with the ways people present themselves in cyberspace, ranging from social networks and dating sites to online 3D chatting games such as Second Life and IMVU, and MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. The central question will be: what identities do people take on in order to shape their virtual lives? How do they present themselves and why? In what way do they shape the virtual world they live in? What is their virtual storyline?
If the subject of this panel looks appealing to you as a researcher or if you are already doing research in this area, please don't hesitate to send in an abstract and present a paper. All presentations need to be limited to 30 minutes: 20 minutes for the paper and 10 minutes for discussion preferably.
Please feel free to forward this mail to colleagues you may think are interested in our panel.
